Penne is a mediaeval Italian town in the heart of the Abruzzo region, an area famous for its National Parks, stunning mountains, and hearty eating.
Penne is about 40 minutes drive from the Adriatic sea in one direction, and two hours drive from Rome in the other. It is in walking distance of one of the national parks - the Penne lake and bird reserve.
There is plenty to see in Penne itself - not just the historic town,
but also the many festivals - traditional, from the gothic hooded monks at Easter
to the Palio in August, and modern, from the 'Notti Bianchi' (cheekily modelled on St. Petersberg) to the rustic Pecora Naits ('Sheep nights'). Local food is a major part of every event.
Once outside Penne you are immediately out into the countryside - lush even in summer. The lake is an afternoon's stroll;
the mountains a half hour drive away, offering walking across the altiplano, horseriding,
and all-year skiing on the highest peaks. The seaside is in easy reach too - 100 kilometres of sandy beach along the Adriatic.
The house, like most houses inside the walls of Penne, is built in a mediaeval style - with vaulted ceilings modelled on the Romanesque cathedral on the hill just above.
Recently renovated throughout, it has two bedrooms and will sleep up to six people. There is a large fitted kitchen/diner with modern range, and two bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower. Bed linen and towels are provided.
Our house is available for holidays, short lets, or rental. If you would like to stay in Penne for your holiday, then see the bookings page for prices and availability, and contact us on .
