Restaurants in Penne

This is a partial list of restaurants inside the wall and in easy walking distance of the house; there are many more outside or in easy driving distance. There are also many pizzerias inside and outside the walls. Be careful with the opening hours for restaurants: to be sure of being served, you should aim to eat between 1-2pm in the afternoon or 8-9pm in the evening.

Ristorante La Grotta: Address: Via Pultone Vico III, 8; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and see the first shops. Turn left on the main street, and La Grotta is immediately visible in the first side-street on the right.; Description: Run by Laura, who speaks good English. This is a family-run local restaurant. There is no menu - Laura will tell you what dishes are available each day. Quality is excellent and quantities large.
Tattobee: Address: Via Corso Alessandrini; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and walk past the first shops. You will arrive at an arcade with a few shops. The restaurant is opposite the first shop (clothes shop), next to a Hairdresser Salon.; Description: This a Ristorante Rustico, serving regional dishes as well as a varied menu. Be prepared to be surprised by the tardis like size of this restaurant.
Giampy's Pub: Address: Largo de Dura; Getting there: Turn right out of the house then go down the steep hill (there is a handrail) to the small square at the bottom. Giampy's is just next to the gate; Description: Mainly a pizzeria and bar, though they also do meals.
My Friends: Address: Piazza Luca da Penne, 36; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and see the first shops. Turn left on the main street and walk till you come to the main square, Luca da Penne. The restaurant is on your right.; Description: Run by Emidio and Christina, who lived in England for many years, and their family. The restaurant also does english food on request, if you're desperate for a full english breakfast. Very good value and friendly; the place is bustling most times in the day, and portions are generous at the lowest prices around.
Locanda dei Lords: Address: Corso Alessandrini; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and see the first shops. Turn right on the main street and walk on towards the main gate, San Francesco. Locanda dei Lords is on the left before you reach the gate.; Description: Pizzeria and bar, though they do other food. On Fridays they do cod dishes ('Bacala') and prebooking ('prenotazione') is recommended. Open later than most places in Penne. Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Has karaoke some evenings.
Osteria Del Leone: Address: Piazza XX Settembre, 3; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and see the first shops. Turn left on the main street and walk till you come to the main square, Luca da Penne. Walk straight across the square and out the other side; the restaurant is in the next little square shortly after, on your left.; Description: We have never eaten there as it was closed when we tried, but some of our guests have and liked it. Sometimes has a jazz pianist playing while you eat.
Tavola Calda La Vestina: Address: Corso dei Martiri Pennesi, 27; Getting there: Turn left out of the house and walk straight on and down till you join the main street and see the first shops. Turn left on the main street and walk till you come to the main square, Luca da Penne. Walk straight across the square and out the other side; take the first left and the restaurant is near the end of the street just before the town gate.; Description: The restaurant is at the back, behind the bar. They do good porchetta, but we haven't eaten in the restaurant yet. Let us know.
